GEORGE TOWN: At least 100 forms containing 15,000 signatures meant to pressure Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi to resign as Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s chief of staff were found torn and thrown outside the campaign organiser’s office in Butterworth.
Forum Penyelarasan Umat (Forum), which is collecting the signatures, described the incident as regretful and said it would lodge a police report.
Forum spokesman Mohd Hafiz Nordin said it was obvious somebody was out to sabotage their campaign.
He said the forms were earlier sent out to Muslim affiliates in the country to collect a minimum of 100,000 signatures to pressure Ooi to step down from his post.
“The sabotage shows that somebody is out to hamper our progress in realising our target of 100,000 signatures,” he said.
