KUALA LUMPUR: The NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women (Niew) goes online to connect with stakeholders located in more than 118 countries.
The online social network platform niew.org aimed as a two-way communication method for Niew and other international bodies to exchange information and actively participate in dialogues.
“This platform act as an online knowledge resource centre,” said Niew director Datuk Rafiah Salim.
Users will be able to utilise online forum, chat room, idea box facility, global message board, uploading and downloading abilities, among others.
She was speaking at the launch of the Niew International Exhi- bition 2009 here at the Mid-Valley exhibition centre yesterday.
Guest of honour was Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.
Niew is an institute dedicated to the development and empowerment of women under the purview of the Shahrizat’s ministry.
The exhibition, which is held until Sunday, is an international event organised to portray women’s issues in NAM member countries through visual display.
The theme “Women of NAM: A Thousand Faces” is chosen to reflect the diversities not only in physical features, but also the challenges faced by women in their respective countries.
