JB man gets RM1,700 phone bill for KL address

What say you on the issue below?

JOHOR BARU: An insurance agent, who has lived here for the past 20 years, was shocked to receive a lawyer’s letter from Telekom Malaysia (TM) demanding payment of RM1,716.10 for a land line registered in Kuala Lumpur.

“I have never registered any telephone or Internet line in Kuala Lumpur as I have been living in Johor Baru for the past 20 years.

“I have also never been to the address stated in the lawyer’s letter,” Yap Mun Fook, 71, claimed.

He added that when he went to the TM office in Taman Sentosa to make enquiries, he was told they were looking into the matter as there had been similar fraud cases. “I also lodged a police report,” he said.

When contacted, a TM spokesman said it was investigating the case and planned to write off the outstanding sum.
