COSMONAUT Major Dr Faiz Khaleed is our personality this week. He says he loves local fare and will eat anywhere as long as the food is tasty and served quickly.
What’s your favourite street food?
a) Char kway teow
b) Tom yum
c) Nasi goreng loaded with lots of cili padi
d) Nasi lemak from Kampung Baru and Village Park in Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya.
I will go to any stall as long as they have what I want. I usually choose the most happening place to go to and in addition to taste, speed is the most important criterion for me. I am not the type who will wait 30 minutes for my food.
Favourite drinks?
Nescafé tarik. Again, I don’t have any preferences as most of the places I have been to have good Nescafé tarik.
Favourite desserts?
ABC, cendol and fried bananas. I am also not averse to an occasional Cornetto ice-cream cone or a Snickers chocolate bar, or cheesecake.
How frequently do you visit these places?
For my nasi lemak at Village Park, no less than three times a week.
Which is your favourite food and why?
I don’t have any favourite because I don’t develop any cravings. Most of the time, where I eat depends on the company. But for the nasi lemak I must say that the one in Village Park is worth a mention. I love the thick sambal.
What kind of food do you dislike?
I don’t like drinks with mint in them – they taste like toothpaste.
Do you binge or have comfort food? When and where?
It will probably be Twisties or Pringles when I am watching DVDs. As for binging, I don’t have those tendencies. Once I am full, that’s it. I don’t crave for any more food.
How do you spend your Sundays?
Playing video games, hanging out at cafés with my friends or trying out a new physical activity like capoeira, for instance. Again, it depends on where the company wants to go. As you can see, I am a pretty much go-with-the-flow type.
Favourite shopping mall/ pasar malam/ flea market?
I like Pavillon KL, where the restaurants are, because it has a lively atmosphere.
Is there any particular street food recommended by friends that you want to try out? Where?
There is this place in Ampang called Raz Alladin which my friends have been talking about. I hear it’s a bit like Uncle Don’s. I hope to go there sometime soon.
