Early Deepavali cheer for the poor

What say you on the issue below?

A total of 44 poor families from Balakong, Bangi, Seri Kembangan received an early Deepavali cheer at a Deepavali luncheon last Sunday.

Each family received a hamper, a RM100 angpow, daily necessities, a pair of live chickens, and a sumptuous lunch at the Xim Phou Moon (XPM) Welfare Society Malaysia headquarters. Medical consultation was also provided.

All these amounted to over RM10,000 and was sponsored and organised by XPM, who also paid for the transportation for the recipients to attend the event.

XPM founder Datuk Tan Leong Hoo said that while they have done such contribution in other states, it was their first in Selangor.

“This will be an annual affair. The objective is for the poor families to know that there are people who can help them and for them to enjoy the festive cheer.

“For next year’s Chinese New Year, we will go to the new villages for a similar activity,” he said.

Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching, who helped to distribute the goodies to the families, said that they were contacted to look for poor families in Serdang.

Dave Anandareg, a 48-year-old unemployed person with disability and his family of four were among those who received the contribution.

“I wanted to set up my own business but that has to be put on hold till my health problems are treated,” he said.
