GEORGE TOWN: A dim sum seller lost a day’s taking of RM42,600 and received at least 100 stitches after he was attacked by six parang-wielding robbers at Jalan Delima, Island Glades here.

Ong Gim Tooi, 47, was riding home on his motorcycle when he bumped into the robbers hiding in a dark corner during the 9pm incident on Sept 25.

Injured: Ong showing the two slashed wounds on his right arm during the press conference in George Town yesterday

“It was unfortunate that I became their victim. The assailants on motorcycles blocked my path. I tried to ward off the attack but to no avail.

“One of them then snatched my sling bag containing my money,” he said, adding that he went to the Penang Hospital on his own despite sustaining the injuries.

He had 100 stitches on his back and right arm following the attack.

Ong, who was discharged on Thursday, was speaking at a press conference organised by DAP Action Team chief Tham Weng Fatt.

Tham said that Ong could not see clearly on that night as the street lights were not working.

He added that dark stretches encouraged snatch thefts and robberies.
