KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar will lead the investigations into the death of an Indonesian maid who was allegedly abused and locked in a toilet.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said there would be no compromise in the case, which has been classified as murder.

He also said the suspects in the case were under remand.

“As soon as the investigations are completed, we will forward the papers to the Attorney-General’s chambers.

“I view this matter seriously and may suggest a special unit, comprising ministries, to prevent a repeat of such case,” he said.

Mantik Hani, 36, from Surabaya, suffered multiple injuries on various parts of her body and was treated by specialists after her rescue.

However, she died in the intensive care unit of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang around 10am on Monday.

Last Tuesday, Mantik, who had a wounded leg as well as bruises on her arms and face, was rescued by police from a house in Taman Sentosa. She was found in the toilet following a tip-off.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the case.

A couple, believed to be her employers, were arrested and remanded for further investigation.

On Monday, a 56-year-old grandmother, believed to be the male suspect’s mother, was arrested and remanded for four days yesterday.

Meanwhile, Criminal Investigations Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin appealed to all parties concerned to remain calm.

“Let us complete our investigations in accordance with the laws of this country,” he said.
