KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described the 2010 Budget as an attempt to address the global economic crisis, but pointed out that there were some basic flaws.
"Plans to manage the deficit are not clear even if it projects that it will be lower than the current 7.4 per cent," he told a press conference at Parliament lobby after the Budget tabling yesterday.
Anwar claimed that while it offered various small benefits to the people it also came with burdens such as new annual fees imposed on credit card holders.
"I demand that these issues are given attention.
"I have no qualms about the pronouncement of their attempt to ensure Malaysia remains more competitive and reduces waste, but actions speak louder," he said.
When tabling the Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is also finance minister, said despite the projected reduced revenue, the government expected to bring down the deficit to 5.6 per cent next year by reducing expenditure.
