TWENTY-EIGHT teams have confirmed their participation in the Milo-Under-21 football league starting at the Proton ground in Shah Alam today.

Organising chairman Datuk K. Sivabalaan said they were happy with the response for the league and the 28 teams had been divided into four groups.

“The league will be an excellent platform for the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) to scout for new talents. There is no dearth of young talents in Selangor. We hope the FAS selectors will make their rounds to identify promising players,’’ said Sivabalaan.

The league, offering the Datuk Mohd Salleh Ahmad challenge trophy, is organised by the Nilam Puri Football Club with support from Chui Lok Club, Horizon Club, Crown Club and Victoria Club and is sanctioned by the FAS.

All preliminary round matches are expected to be completed by Dec 13. After the preliminary rounds, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter-finals. The sponsors for the league are Milo, Figos and Peritrans.

The champions will receive RM3,000 as well as prizes from Milo and Figos, the runners-up RM2,000 while the losing semi-finalists will get RM1,000 each. There will be individual awards for the best striker, best midfielder, best defender, best goalkeeper, man of the match (final) and best team manager.

Sivabalaan also urged the local fans to come and watch the matches.

Group B; Puchong United (P), Majestic Stone, Crown, Kuala Langat, Chui Lok, Adi-Mega

Group C: Puchong United (O), EWRF, Victoria, Petaling DFA, Smart Focus, UiTM

Group D: MPKE B, Pemadam, Horizon, Putra Perwira, Hot Spurs, Anak Kalumpang
