FORMER English Premier League (EPL) players will once again be in Malaysia in the EPL Masters Football Malaysia Cup to be held at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Nov 22.
Local football fans will get the chance to see some of the former greats including Andy Cole and Ronny Johnsen, who used to play for Manchester United; Jason McAteer of Liverpool; and goalkeeper Ian Walker of Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool, led by Ian Rush, became the champions in the inaugural tournament at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam last year, when they defeated Bryan Robson’s Manchester United 5-3.
Former England international Viv Anderson and David May were in Kuala Lumpur recently for the launch of this year’s competition.
“Last year’s tournament was enjoyed by all the players, some visiting Malaysia for the first time, so it’s no surprise that they are raring to go again. I know I am,” said Anderson.
May said some of the most passionate fans in the world could be found in Malaysia and it gave the players a chance to relive their playing days.
A family fiesta will start at 2pm while the competition will kick-off at 5pm.
Tickets priced at RM308, RM88, RM48 and RM18 are available from Axcess tickets at www.axcess.com.my or 03-7711 5000.
There will also be a gala dinner on Nov 23 with tables priced at RM5,000 (VIP player table), RM2,500 (Platinum table) or RM250 per person.
