ALTHOUGH Deepavali was celebrated some time ago, the mood of the festivity was still very much felt at a recent celebration organised by the Indian residents of a condominiun in Old Klang Road.

Despite a drizzle in the evening, some 200 residents of the Sri Manja Court condominium gathered for a night of fun, food and entertainment.

Indian and non-Indian residents came dressed in traditional attire like sarees, punjabi suits and children in lenghas and kurtas to add colour to thecelebration.

It started with senior Hindu residents lighting a traditional oil lamp or kutuvilakku at the entrance to the condominium.

The organiser of the Deepavali Night, K.G Rajoo, said he hoped that the more events such as this would be held for all future celebrations at the condominium.

“Such gatherings are an opportunity for the residents to mingle and to get to know their neighbours better.

“I hope more festivals will be celebrated here in the future to enhance ties among the residents,” he said.

Alice Yeow, who came in a punjabi suit, said she was excited as it was her first time wearing the outfit, adding that many of the residents could not recognise her.

The residents had a good time while feasting on an array of Indian food and were also entertained with modern and classical Tamil songs and dances throughout the night.
