GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA Youth chief Eng Hiap Boon is disgusted with his national Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong for calling on Umno to intervene in MCA’s ongoing leadership impasse.
Eng, who is also the state MCA deputy chairman and a central committee member asked:
“Why is the Youth wing chief, who is supposed to be the vanguard of the party, so eager to ask outsiders to interfere?
“In the past, the Youth wing would vehemently oppose any interference from outsiders and have always been confident that our leaders have the wisdom to put its own house in order.
“Has he now lost faith in the wisdom of top MCA leaders, of which he is also part of?
“MCA grassroots members are confident that the party can settle its internal issues without any outside interference.”
He said outside interference would “greatly complicate” things in the long-run.
“We would like to thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for his deep concern and offer to help but the grassroots’ sentiment is that MCA would be able to sort out its problems in time,” he said.
Eng also chided Dr Wee for being “so hard up” for outsiders to get involved in the party’s internal affairs.
“How will the wing hold its head high when it is accused by the Chinese community of not having a backbone?
“I hope his insistence is not based on his own twisted assumption that he would be promoted politically when outsiders tell us how to run our party,” he said.
