African kungfu kids return to thrill again

THE African kungfu kids from the Amitofo Care Centre (ACC) based in Malawi will be returning to Malaysia to thrill local fans.

Following the overwhelming response last season, Michael’s Badminton Academy (MBA) have renewed their partnership with the troupe as the co-organiser of the event along with the EDUWIS Selangor Orphanage Association.

MBA have lined up two charity shows, scheduled to be held at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Civic Centre in Petaling Jaya and MBA’s hall in Bandar Puteri Puchong on Dec 6 and 19 respectively.

Last year, the academy raised about RM50,000 for The Bright Journey of the Buddhist Seeds from Africa led by the Venerable Hui Li, to support their cause of providing health care and education for more than 3,000 children under the charity organisation’s care.

MBA director Michael Lee acknowledged that the young children had touched the hearts of the local spectators with their energetic and spectacular Shaolin kungfu performances.

“Considering that they had picked up the art within such a short period, they had impressed the crowd by combining music and dance in their execution of the Chinese martial arts moves in their two-hour routine.

“We are confident that they will put up another good show here,” Lee added.

A total of 1,600 guests are expected to watch the two shows and they are aiming to collect about RM200,000 for the organisation.

“The funds will be channelled towards providing better facilities for the children. They are also working towards building their own school in their bid to nurture the children,” Lee said.

Besides Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, the group, comprising 30 young martial art trainees, two martial mentors, a music teacher and a chaperon, will be visiting seven other states as well as Brunei.

For the tour around the Peninsula, they will also be performing in Ipoh, Penang, Kuantan, , Malacca and Johor.

In addition, they be heading to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah as well as three locations — Miri, Sibu and Kuching — in Sarawak.
