Star Foundation donates RM700,000 to eight charities

PETALING JAYA: The Star Foundation, the charity arm of The Star media group, donated a total of RM700,000 to various charitable bodies in the Klang Valley yesterday.

The recipients of the donation were Hospis Malaysia, National Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia (NAWEM), The Heart Foundation of Malaysia, Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation of Malaysia, Ti-Ratana Welfare Society, Ti-Ratana Community Centre Penchala, The Special Children Society of Ampang and the National Stroke Association of Malaysia (NASAM).

Foundation exco chairman Datuk Dr Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Rouse, The Star’s group chief editor Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, The Star’s advertising and business development senior general manager Calvin Kan and foundation executive committee deputy chairman Datuk Patrick Teoh presented the cheques to the recipients at Menara Star yesterday.

Hospis Malaysia council member Datuk Dr Peter Mooney thanked the Star Foundation, saying: “We are most grateful to The Star as we are entirely dependant on the generosity of the public to fund our operations.”

“We are proud that the Star Foundation has come out to continue contributing to society, especially during this economic downturn,” said Ti-Ratana Welfare Society founder Ven. K. Sri. Dhammaratana.

“Hopefully, many other organisations will follow this example set by the foundation during a time like this,” he said.

NAWEM president Shamsimar Yusof said she was thankful on behalf of her organisation for the donation.

“We are pleased that the foundation recognised the need to train and equip financially challenged women,” she said.
