PUTRAJAYA: The Education Ministry is confident that the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) exams would not be disrupted by floods. Precautions have been taken due to the monsoon season, ministry director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the guidelines for schools in case of flooding, Alimuddin said schools in flood-prone states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah had been instructed to hold the exams on the first floor.

If such schools had to be closed, alternative examination centres have been identified and a switch of venue could be made on short notice, he added.

School authorities were also instructed to identify examination candidates whose homes and villages were affected bythe floods.

“These students will be housed in school hostels where food and basic necessities will be provided,’’ said Alimuddin.

“We don’t expect accommodation problems as these exams will take place towards the tail-end of the year,’’ he said.

Of these, 90 were in Terengganu while Kedah and Kelantan have 10 and three respectively.
