TEMERLOH: Former Kuala Lumpur-Federal Territory Umno Youth head Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria has obtained an order from the Sessions Court restraining the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission from harassing and contacting the second witness in his corruption case.

Judge Azuar Che Yusof issued the order following an application by Mohamad Norza’s counsel Datuk Seri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah who told the court that witness Mohd Taupik Hussain claimed that he was harshly treated by commission officers when he gave statement on the case.

Muhammad Shafee said Mohd Taupik, who is also Wangsa Maju Umno Youth chief, was beaten and ridiculed by the officers to get him (Mohd Taupik) to confess that he was at a meeting with second accused Halimi Kamaruzzaman at Mont Kiara at 8pm on Jan 19.

Muhammad Shafee raised the matter during DPP Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairy’s questioning of Mohd Taupik in the corruption trial of Mohamad Norza and his agent Halimi.

Ahmad Sazilee then asked for the hearing to continue tomorrow as he did not have the original copy of the statement by Mohd Taupik on the alleged meeting.

Former Umno supreme council member Mohamad Norza, 43, is charged with offering a RM1,500 bribe to Khadri Musa, through Halimi, to vote for him in the Umno general assembly in March.

He is also charged with giving a RM1,900 bribe to Temerloh Umno vice-chief Mohammad Anuar Yunus, also through Halimi, for the same purpose.

The offences were allegedly committed at No 38 Pinggiran Tasik in Taman Bandar Temerloh at 6.30pm on Jan 20.

Halimi, 47, of Kuantan, is charged with two counts of giving bribes to Khadri and Mohammad Anuar at the same place and time.

Earlier, Mohd Taupik told the court that he went to Temerloh with Mohamad Norza and two others to attend a function at Anuar’s house on Jan 20.
