Security companies in Seremban have been told not to hire foreigners as this was against the licensing conditions set by the Home Ministry.
State police chief SAC 1 Datuk Osman Salleh said these companies were also duty-bound to vet the background of all their prospective guards with the authorities before hiring them.
“Although most companies have been strictly following the ministry’s rules, there are those who have been openly flouting them.
“I have seen this happening in other states where I served previously,” he said after witnessing the handing over of the ISO 9001:2008 certificate by ICS Certification (M) Sdn Bhd’s S. Thagamany to East West Security Services Sdn Bhd chairman Raja Abd Assiss Raja Laksamana Abu Bakar.
Osman said some security companies also required their guards to work on double shifts.
“The guards would not be as alert if they are required to work long hours. There have been cases where vehicles parked 30m away from the guard post have gone missing,” he said.
He also advised security companies to send their guards who handled firearms for refresher courses.
This, he said, was necessary to ensure the guards were able to operate the weapon as required during an emergency.
“Also, your guards must strictly follow the standard operating procedures when they are given cash-in-transit assignments as it often involved a lot of money.
“Security companies should make changes in schedules because following a routine can make you an easy target,” he said.
Osman commended East West Security Services for being awarded the ISO 9001:2008.
“I have been told that you are among the few companies to be given this certification. I hope more companies will emulate you in providing quality service to your customers,” he said.
Earlier, East West Security Services managing director Capt (Rtd) P. Ramakrishnaah thanked his employees for their dedication which eventually led to the company being given the award.
“Our customers will have more faith in us now as we have gone through the processes as a company committed to providing the best to our clients.
“We also hope to provide more jobs to the locals as we expand and reduce our dependency on Nepali guards,” he said.
