PAMELA Chong and Vanessa Chong, also known as the Chong sisters, have ventured into numerous projects since their Amazing Race Asia 2 days.
Both are often sought for emceeing and modelling jobs, such as last year’s stint in which the duo served as the Malaysian hosts for online talent competition www.italentstar.com.
Vanessa, a Chartered Institute of Marketing postgraduate diploma and Marketing Administration degree holder, is the TV Host/VJ for Independent Asian Music TV (i-amtv).
Pamela, a Mass Communication and Multimedia degree holder, is dabbling in acting and hosting.
She was most recently seen in the late award-winning director Yasmin Ahmad’s movie Talentime, and hosted 10 episodes of Astro TVIQ’s Keep It Wild programme.
The duo, who attribute their good looks to their genes from their Chinese dad and English mum, are very much into outdoor activities.
Vanessa cites swimming, kickboxing, hiking and adventurous activities as her interest.
“My latest addiction is the ‘Original Bootcamp’ programme which I go for three times a week, as well as my fitness regime,” said Vanessa.
“The programme is a military-inspired, outdoor group personal training programme that uses discipline-based motivational techniques.”
Pamela enjoys dancing, animal conservation, sports, outdoor recreation, eating, shopping and movies.
“I also like mimicking voices, and putting on different accents and cartoon voices. It’s a great way to entertain friends and family during conversations!” said Pamela.
The duo were also recently voted to the coveted number one spot as FHM’s 100 Most Wanted Women in the World during FHM’s 100 Most Wanted Women 2009 Party.
What do you like about KL?
V: Obviously the food! I think we have some of the best food. Whenever friends or relatives visit, the first thing I do is take them out for some good local food. The best thing is you can eat out or take away at any time. Another great thing is our malls don’t shut till late; a lots of places in Europe shut at 5pm. So this is definitely convenient.
P: The variety and taste of food we have. I love the fact that you can just head out, whether during the day or night, and find food that you crave.
What do you dislike about KL?
V: I cannot stress enough about our dirty toilets! You can judge the mentality of the people by the toilets. We might have nice buildings and modern infrastructure, but we must truly learn to keep our public toilets clean.
P: The thing I dislike about KL is the littered streets. We have such beautiful buildings, both historical and modern, but with it you have litter along the streets. Malaysians really need to make that extra effort to keep the streets clean.
What’s your favourite food?
V: I love banana leaf rice, which I savour the traditional way by eating using my hands. It’s a treat I indulge in once in while. But what I eat often are sandwiches, especially those that are served with freshly-baked bread. Baguettes are my favourite.
P: Gosh, it’s so hard to pick a favourite dish! I’m the type of person who loves variety in food. Every day I may crave something different. I love our icy desserts, rojak, nasi lemak, roti canai, pan mee, and many more.
What do you do to relax?
V: When I have time off from a crazy work schedule, I love just kicking back by watching DVDs, TV series and sitcoms. Reading at a café is a great way to chill; another favourite of mine is just hanging out by the poolside, listening to music after a good swim.
P: I love to chill with a nice cup of coffee, catch up with friends, and people-watch. I don’t do it very often, but once in a while I like to pamper myself with a nice spa treatment.
What’s your favourite place to hang out in KL?
V: In the daytime, it would have to be at a café in The Gardens Mall. For dinners and catching up with friends, it would have to be Changkat Bukit Bintang. I wish I could just hang out at some of our parks because we have really nice parks, but the weather makes that impossible.
P: I like to hang out around Changkat Bukit Bintang at night. It’s a nice chill-out place. There are great bars and restaurants with a variety of different cuisines to choose from.
