10 contestants dance their way to the Jumbo Queen finals

THE Jumbo Queen 2011 competition is back and after a gruelling semi-finals held recently, 10 gutsy ladies made it to the finals which will take place on Nov 1.

Out of 16 contestants, the 10 who were shortlisted had to introduce themselves and perform for the audience.

The semi-finals was divided into two parts — self introduction followed by group performance.

Contestants were grouped and had to dance in their sporty attire.

The finalists are Kelly Ong Kay Li, (95kg), 26; Purnisha (112kg), 31; Winnie Goh Yea Min (117kg), 29; Nor Intah Julyana aka Pretty Diamond (100kg), 33; Honey Chan Ang Li (89kg), 22; Yoong Swen Moon (94kg), 21; Sharon Lim Su Ling (120kg), 23; Irene Wee (85kg), 22; Azurah Ismail (120kg), 37 and Theresa Chin Tze Tze (104kg), 39.

The contestants were judged based on their stage personality, confidence, crowd response, apparel and overall performance. They came from various backgrounds — working as beautician, manager, personal assistant, cashier, student, senior buyer and student.

This year’s competition attracted participants from all over Malaysia.

The competition is open to single or married ladies with a minimum weight of 80kg.

The competition organiser received about 100 registration forms and only 30 were chosen to participate after a strict interview session. The 30 participants were then divided into two heat selections in which each heat comprised 15 contestants.

Sungei Wang Plaza promotions and public relations senior manager K.K Lim said: “Jumbo Queen 2011 provides a platform for large-size women to express their individuality, and be in the limelight and battle it on equal ground for the crown.’’

Winner of the Miss Jumbo Queen 2011 title will walk away with a cash prize of RM5,000, Secolo Hair Dressing voucher worth RM1,000, MOG Eyewear voucher worth RM1,000, trophy and sash while the first runner-up will bring home RM3,000 cash and Secolo Hair Dressing voucher worth RM700, MOG Eyewear voucher worth RM700, trophy and sash. The second runner-up will be get RM2,000 cash, Secolo Hair Dressing voucher worth RM500, MOG Eyewear voucher worth RM400, trophy and sash.

There are also consolation prizes for various categories such as “Most Popular”, “Most Talented”, “Most Online Votes on Facebook”, “Mix FM Most Popular Choice Award” and “MY FM Most Popular Choice Award”.

Winners of these categories will be awarded with RM500 cash, MOG Eyewear voucher worth RM300 and trophy respectively.
