JOHOR BARU: A prostitution den along Jalan Dhoby in the city centre was raided by the state Immigration Department three months ago and had its the activities stopped for a while.
However, it did not take long for the business to resume at the premises, a pre-war shophouse.
A raid conducted on Oct 22 at around 10.55pm saw the department arresting 18 suspects including 12 suspected prostitutes from Indonesia and six local men, including two believed to be pimps.
An Immigration Department spokesman said at the time of the operation, two of the customers were in rooms with women while the other two customers were waiting for their turn.
“The suspected prostitutes, aged between 20 and 38, are from Indonesia and Thailand. The two local pimps are aged between 30 and 38,” he said.
The spokesperson also said that the case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Anti-Human Trafficking Act 2007.
In an unrelated case, a 72-year-old suspected pimp was detained at a foot reflexology outlet at Taman Munsyi Ibrahim here for soliciting clients for six Thai women at the shop.
The department conducted the raid at the outlet on Oct 23 at around 5.15pm after receiving a tip from the public.
The women, aged between 34 and 47, were found locked in the outlet against their will and claimed they were forced to offer sexual services to male customers. The case is being investigated under Section 15 of the Anti-Human Trafficking Act 2007.
