THE Perak Government is set to introduce the “Kampung Tanpa Sampah” (village without rubbish) programme statewide for a cleaner environment.
To drive home his point on the programme, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said Kampung Sungai Rokam in Ipoh was the first village in the state, and second in the country, to be declared a “Kampung Tanpa Sampah”.
He said the programme would be implemented in all districts via local government agencies.
“The hope is that the programme will create awareness on cleanliness and ensure all villages and other residential suburbs place emphasis on cleanliness in their respective areas,” he said after opening the Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR) Al-Falah in Taman Soong Choon, Ipoh recently.
Expressing his satisfaction over the level of cleanliness in Ipoh, the Mentri Besar however told Ipoh City Council (MBI) that there was room for improvement in the beautification aspect, especially ahead of Visit Perak Year next year.
Dr Zambry said the council should also focus on beautifying all the main gateways to the city.
“Beautiful main roads leading to Ipoh will project a positive image of the city to visitors upon their arrival,” he said.
He stressed that he did not want the council to only beautify the area near his official residence.
He said that he received an SMS from a person who questioned why the council only beautified the area near his official residence, adding that such a comment was justified.
