MUAR: The Johor Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Department has set a target of having at least 100 ‘Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia’ food outlets in the state by end of the year.
Its director Che Halim Abdul Rahman said at present only 58 food outlets had responded to the concept and urged others to also join the programme.
Che Halim said the Menu Rakyat 1Malaysia food outlets provided cheap set breakfasts and lunches which did not cost more than RM2 and RM4 respectively.
“We have seven such outlets in Muar at the moment and we also want more outlets here as well as in the Ledang district to adopt the concept.
“On our part, we will promote their outlets, including addresses and locations in the ministry’s website,” he said after visiting a Menu Rakyat foodstall along Jalan Bakariah here recently.
He added that participating outlets would also be given banners or posters of Menu Rakyat to display at their outlets to attract customers.
On the Jalan Bakariah outlet, he said it adopted the concept recently to cater to local residents, nearby factory workers and motorists, especially lorry drivers.
He said, since the outlet was located along the Jalan Bakariah-Jalan Ismail junction near the second bridge it was easy to locate and the road shoulders were also wide for vehicles to park.
On another matter, Che Halim advised consumers to check for Sirim stickers on all electrical items, including power plugs and sockets, sold at RM2 shops.
“Some of these items have no Sirim stickers and could cause fires as they are of poor quality. We also urge the traders to only sell good products although they are not branded items,” he added.
