HOSTING open houses during festivals is something Malaysians are known for and the Valiram family hosted their Deepavali open house in style at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur.

The entrance to the ballroom was decorated with an impressive kolam featuring the logo of the Valiram Group, a South-East Asia luxury goods retailer.

The Valiram family, headed by group chairman Jethanand Valiram, were seen busy greeting guests at the entrance.

Inside the ballroom, an ice sculpture, also featuring with the Valiram logo, welcomes guests who included Ministers, foreign diplomats, corporate personalities and local socialites.

Group chairman Sharan Valiram said that Deepavali was an event that was close to the hearts of all Indians and they held open houses to celebrate it with their friends and family.

“It is the festival of lights and a time for us to ask the higher power to remove obstacles in our part and bestow upon us light throughout the year,” he said.

Sharan said that the open house also provided an informal setting for them to catch up with their business partners and friends, some of whom they had not seen for a long time.

Guests at the event helped themselves to a variety of food at the buffet table like fried kueh teow, chicken satay, rendang, chicken shawarma and mushroom pasta.
