AMBANK Group staff are gearing up in full force for the PJ Half Marathon 2011 this weekend.

Some 20 staff gathered for a training session at KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur, where they shared some tips among each other.

Izham Jamaluddin, 27, is no stranger to the world of sports as he has been running in track events.

All ready: AmBank Group employees training for the marathon at KLCC Park.

The Malaysia Games athlete is participating in 10km run for long endurance.

“The most important thing is warming up correctly before you run and try to maintain the time.

“PJ Half Marathon is a fun thing for us to take part in,” he said.

Nur Raziela Razali, 25, will be running for the first time as a way to take part in the company’sactivities.

“Usually we get too busy with work and can’t take part in the activities, so this is just nice for me.

“I have been training at the park here as well as at home. It’s a great effort to bring everyone together and get to know other people as well through this event,” she said.

For Yeoh B.L, 34, this will be second time joining the marathon since 2007.

He has been training at the gym doing cycling, treadmill, weights and stepping.

“For me, this presents a great way for us to build our teamwork, so that we will have a healthier lifestyle and brings us closer together,” he said.

Team captain Ruslan Kasim said the staff have been meeting regularly for training apart from training at the gym.

AmBank Group public affairs head Syed Anuar Syed Ali said at least 100 staff members have agreed to participate in the marathon.

This is seen as the company’s corporate social responsibility in line with the objective of reaching out to the community and create a better workplace.

“This will help ensure a healthy lifestyle and increase productivity. Most young people are enthusiastic about meeting their friends.

“It encourages camaraderie as they might move from half to longer distance,” he said.
