PEMUDA Medan Batu Caves thrashed Minnal FC 3-0 to win the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) Zone Four futsal tournament held at the outdoor futsal court in Kampung Bendahara, Batu Caves recently.
Pemuda Medan Batu Caves was rewarded RM1,000 for their win while Minnal FC received RM750.
Zone Three Junior edged Royal FC 3-2 to finish third to collect RM500. Royal FC received RM200.
All the top four teams received medals and trophies.
We did it!: Members of the Pemuda Medan Batu Caves with their trophy, medals and prize money after winning the MPS Zone Four futsal tournament. The tournament, organised by MPS Zone Four councillor A. Murugeshu and MPS, had a total of 25 teams taking part.
Selayang MP William Leong, who gave away the prizes, said this tournament was a good avenue for youth to join instead of indulging in unhealthy habits such as smoking, doing drugs or participating in illegal motorcycle racing.
“It also promotes futsal at the grassroots level. Youths who develop an interest in this sport might eventually be picked up by scouts to the district or state level,’’ he said.
Murugeshu said only the Open category was organised this year.
“Last year, we had the Under-12 and Under-15 age group categories.
“We are looking to have a similar tournament for netball to promote sports among the women here next year,’’ he said.
