SINCE 1956, Malaysians have entered the halls of the great teaching Institute of Manipal. Today, more than 5,000 Malaysians have graduated from Manipal University. The graduates largely come from the Medical faculty followed by the Dental and Pharmacy Colleges.
The Manipal Alumni Association Malaysia was officially registered on Aug 15, 1986. It was formed by like-minded friends who believed that an association would help build camaraderie and fellowship among its members.
The association celebrated its 25th anniversary recently, at the Holiday Villa, Subang. To make it a memorable event, the local alumni invited fellow graduates from other countries.
Having fun: Guests enjoying themselves at the welcome dinner. The response was overwhelming with Manipalites from England, the United States, South Africa, India, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Scotland, Kenya and Australia also showing up.
The opening night was hosted by ING Insurance and the highlight was the Roll Call of Nations which saw various flags being carried on stage and displayed.
Friday Night was back to the days of “Woodstock”. Three of Malaysia’s top bands played the night away. During the day, members were involved in various games ranging from cricket and bowling to arm wrestling while their children were treated to a robotics competition and water theme sports. The sponsors were busy at the various trade booths which included a half-day of lectures and a seminar.
The final night was the 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner which saw 700 Manipalites and their guests enjoying a night of exuberant fellowship and bonding.
