The first-ever mega hot dog eating competition, the NutriPlus Top Dog Eating Championship, will be held on Dec 3 and 4 at the Jom Heboh Carnival, National Sports Complex, Bukit Jalil.
The inaugural championship will see participants competing for the title and a chance to win a total of RM13,550 cash.
There will be two categories — singles, or if you feel safer with someone backing you up, you can join the doubles category.
The champion of the singles and doubles category will walk away with RM3,000 cash while the runner-up and second runner-up will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively.
At the media launch recently, Lay Hong Berhad marketing director Yap Chor How said, “The rules are simple — the person who can chomp down the most hot dogs wins! Also, participation is free, so it is a win-win situation for those who lose, as at least, they won’t go home with an empty stomach!”
“This championship is a fun way to end the year and we believe that it will be a truly great experience for contestants and supporters alike,” added Yap.
There was even a mini competition for members of the media who were present at the event to get a taste of how the competition will be done.
The preliminary round will be held on Nov 26, while the finals will be held the following day. In the preliminary round of each category, contestants will be broken into groups of 20 (randomly drawn by the judges).
Participants are given three minutes to stomach as much hot dogs as they can.
The top 20 will be selected for the finals and will compete for the crown.
In the finals, the participant who eats the most hot dogs in 10 minutes wins! In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by a four-minute hot dog eat-off with the winner being the one who consumes the most.
Contestants are free to eat the hot dogs anyway they choose — eating each item separately, dunking it in water, mushed or mashed.
However, they have to comply with the ultimate rule — they are not allowed to throw up or be immediately disqualified.
The championship is open to all Malaysians aged 18 and above and does not require any purchase.
