KUCHING: Muzalifah Reni made the right decision when she turned down an offer to study law in order to pursue her interest in business studies at Technology College Sarawak (TCS).
The 23-year-old received the best student award for degree level at the college’s convocation here yesterday.
“After finishing Form Six, I got an offer from Universiti Darul Iman Malaysia in Terengganu to study law. But I wasn’t interested in law, I was more keen on mathematics and accounting.
“Then I was offered a place at TCS to study business and I took that up,” she said.
Muzalifah, who obtained a bachelor of business administration in international business awarded by Twintech International University College of Technology, said her ambition was to have her own business one day.
For now, she is looking for a full-time job as she is currently working part-time at a travel agency.
“I would also like to further my studies to Masters level in the same field.”
During her three years at TCS, Muzalifah maintained a grade point average (GPA) of above 3.5 every semester, including a perfect score of 4.0 in her third semester.
Besides her academic achievements, she was also active in various college activities, such as attending workshops and organising talks for fellow students.
She also completed Toastmasters International’s competent communicator manual in July last year.
Asked for the secret of her success, Muzalifah said it was self-belief and perseverance, along with advice and support from her parents.
“I was also spurred on by the success of others,” she said.
Her father Reni Dollah, 74, was pleased and proud that Muzalifah, the youngest of five children, not only graduated with a degree but was the best student.
“Since young she had always done well in her studies. From Primary One to Form Six, she never failed any subject,” he said.
He added that he had actually wanted her to pursue law, but continued to encourage her when she chose to study business instead.
Meanwhile, the best student award for diploma level went to Noor Atiqah Ibrahim, who received a diploma in computer science (information technology).
