AN estimated 3,000 people will be taking part in a ‘bigger and better’ World Walking Day event to be flagged off at the Penang Municipal Park.

Organised by Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd with the support from the Penang State Sports Council and Penang Municipal Council, the event will start at 6am on Nov 20.

Nestle products Sdn Bhd corporate wellness manager Chia Wee Leng said the nationwide event would be simultaneously flagged off in Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak and Johor Baru.

“The number of participants this year is expected to be 15,000 compared to 12,500 last year,” she told a press conference.

Nestle has pledged to contribute RM1 for every kilometre that each registered participant walks.

The money will then be used to buy 100 wheelchairs for physically-challenged Malaysians to be more mobile.

Those who are interested in taking part in the event can get the registration form at the Penang City Stadium, Penang Municipal Park information centre, RMZ Entertainment in Prai and Right Group Sdn Bhd at Suntech Penang Cybercity in Bayan Baru.

Registration is free. Closing date is when the 3,000 mark is reached.
