Love the outdoors? This first of a two-part series gives the roundup on the best spots for hiking, biking, paddling and climbing in Malaysia.
HOW does one define “best”? It was a tough call when we decided to do an informal poll to uncover Malaysia’s best outdoor destinations and trails.
We sent out mass e-mails to contacts – adventure buffs, outdoor operators and guides – and marked the names most mentioned. “You can easily define the highest mountain, the longest river, the biggest cave. But there are so many different elements when considering the accolade of ‘best’, ” says adventure operator Chan Yuen-Li, a four-time finisher of the Eco Challenge.

If you don’t already know, yes, Malaysia is one of the ultimate adventure playgrounds in Asia. Somebody once said that “to know is to love.”
So get out there and get to know these places if you haven’t already. And let’s try to protect the last bastion of wilderness in Malaysia.
