THE Negri Sembilan government will provide immediate funds to repair houses damaged during natural disasters to ensure the victims are not left to fend for themselves.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the state government had already issued a directive on this and hoped that all Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) and Rukun Tetangga sectors would abide by it.
“There had been several occasions recently where houses were damaged due to strong winds in several parts of the state.
“Whenever this happens, those in charge of the JKKKs and RT should know the standard operating procedure and contact me so funds could be released for immediate repairs,” he said during a visit to Kg Linsum in Rantau recently.
Several houses had their roofs and wooden structures blown off due to strong winds.
Mohamad said other state agencies would also follow suit and extend whatever assistance required to ensure the victims were not left in the lurch.
He said several other areas were also hit by the strong winds and efforts to channel aid were already under way.
“From the report I received, several areas in Seremban, Rembau and Kuala Pilah were also damaged due to strong winds.
“It is important that repairs are carried out immediately so that the victims’ belongings were safe and secure,” he said.
Mohamad said the state authorities had a set of contractors who would be despatched to these areas immediately once there were reports on such incidents.
He said the affected households could also apply for aid from the Welfare Department and the Baitulmal, if the damage was extensive.
Mohamad also said the the state government also gave monthly cash aid to 28,105 individuals in the state through the Welfare Department, Islamic Affairs Council and Orang Asli Affairs Department as part of its social security programme.
He said the monthly bill amounted to about RM8.35mil.
