KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) plans to have better Deepavali bazaar arrangements next year, said Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.
He said a better arrangement was necessary to ensure people were not affected by the bazaar placement.
Raja Nong Chik, who visited the Deepavali bazaar in Brickfields, walked with about 30 blind people in the area.
“We have to look at the location because it is the main road and indirectly contributed to the congestion.
“But this situation is common during the festive period as everything is concentrated along the main road but we cannot inconvenience others.
“The bazaar is for the small traders to make money and they can make a good income during this period,” he said. Raja Nong Chik agreed that some areas of the bazaar were too congested.
He added that the parking in the area needed to be looked into because of the heavy traffic in Brickfields.
“This year we had a lot of complaints even though the bazaar has been around since 2004.
“We have tried relocating the bazaar previously but did not receive good response.
“As for the dedicated bus and taxi lane along Jalan Tun Sambathan, it will likely be implemented by the middle of next month. This will help reduce the congestion along Jalan Sultan Abdul Samad,” he said.
