Couples outdo each other to bag attractive prizes

What say you on the issue below?

IT WAS a tough race for 27 couples as they dashed their way across the finish line in the “The Return of Brides Race 2011” at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Kuala Lumpur recently.

Participants were running to win the coveted grand prize — a wedding banquet with 20 tables worth RM41,760 sponsored by the hotel.

The energetic brides-to-be raced down a 800m course while competing in five different challenges.

Winning teams: Angeline Ng and Ho Wai Keen (centre) followed by Yup Vin Li and Choo Jey Sern who took home the second prize (right) and Jacklyn Tan and Yong Tse Jin won the third prize (left)

The race started with the “Destiny Run” where the brides made a spirited dash to their grooms followed by three couple challenges; “Sweetness of Memory” where they had to finish six cup cakes; “The Essence of Love” that required the couples to make a corsage and “2-become-1” which is a three legged race.

The final challenge was “Ring & Vows”, where the groom had to find a ring buried in a pool of coloured balls before carrying his bride pass the finishing line.

The race was held to kickstart the hotel’s “ExKLusively Yours!” Bridal Month in October.

“We are a hotel brand that believes in having fun and injecting some warmth in everything we do. This event allows us to demonstrate just that,” said the hotel general manager Ian Barrow.

Angeline Ng Geok Kee,27, a network engineer and fiance Ho Wai Keen, 29, a manager with an outsourcing company, beat all the other couples to the prize.

Looking good: Remy Pang and Bernard Wong walked home as the Best Dressed Couple (Bridal Theme).

Having trained for the event, the couple was happy to emerge victors.

“We trained for the challenge but we didn’t stick to our original strategies and decided to go with the flow,” added Angeline.

Her sisters also took part in the race with their fiances and although both did not win, they vouched to try again next year.

Yup Vin Li and Choo Jey Sern took home the second prize which was a wedding gown from Eric Choong KL worth RM6,000 and two night’s stay in DoubleTree by Hilton, Beijing.

The third prize — a pre-wedding photography worth RM5,800 from Jiam Liaw Photography and two night’s stay in Hilton Hanoi — went to Jacklyn Tan and Yong Tse Jin.

Remy Pang Yun Yann and Bernard Wong walked home as the “Best Dressed Couple (Bridal Theme)” and both won a pre-weding photography by principal photographer, Zung from the Photoz valued at RM15,000.

Other prize categories were “Most Photogenic Couple — Romance Under the Trees” theme where Yeap May Chi and Ong Jun Kiat won RM6,000 worth of beauty and body treatments from Body Perfect while Chian Yei Nie won a gown worth RM4,800 from Carven Ong and two night’s stay in Conrad Bali for the “Most Creative Veil”.

All participants who completed the race were given a complimentary night’s stay at DoubleTree by Hilton KL.
