RESIDENTS of Kampung Muhibbah were all smiles during the Kampung Muhibbah “Projek Kecheerian” Health Carnival organised by non-profit youth development organisation, Asian Youth Ambassadors (AYA) recently.

The event was a joint collaboration between AYA, Kampung Muhibbah 1 and 2 residents’ associations and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Government agencies such as the Federal Territory Health Department and National Population and Family Development Board also supported the event by organising free health and dental screenings running concurrently with a futsal competition and fun carnival activities conducted by AYA.

The aim of the carnival was to bring cheer, hope and at the same time give back to this community a fun-filled time. About 2,000 residents, comprising children and adults participated in the carnival in full force.

AYA founder and director Kenneth Chin said: “We heard about the dire condition some of the residents are in and have been organising monthly initiatives and a futsal clinic with the children there.

“For months, we have been devising a bigger-scale programme, gathering all our resources and finding ways to bring cheer to the community in a better way, which is what we’re seeing here at this Projek Kecheerian.

“Today’s full-day health carnival at PPR Kampung Muhibbah represents our biggest effort yet. It is a culmination of compassion, selflessness and teamwork from various parties,” he said.

There were also about 140 volunteers comprising students and young working professionals who joined AYA in this effort.

Kampung Muhibbah 2 Residents’ Association representative, Mohd Zairi Rasidi Abdul Hadi, said the residents were very grateful towards the various parties that came forward to organise such activity.

“It is heartwarming to see various groups coming together to transform our community. For this, the people here at Kampung Muhibbah 1 and 2 are ever thankful.”

Kampung Muhibbah is located off Jalan Puchong and is one of several low-cost government housing developments under the purview of the DBKL. The entire development houses 2,800 low-cost apartment units and was completed in 1999. The majority of the residents are from the lower income group.
