The early Deepavali event was held at SRJK (T) Kajang where approximately 100 headmasters, teachers, pupils and parents attended.

The workshop is part of the programme to train pupils in 282 selected Tamil primary schools comprising 53% of all Tamil schools in the country. This programme has been endorsed by the Tamil School Headmasters’ Council.

At the end of the programme, a total of 9,000 pupils and teachers will be provided with the training which is fully funded by Carlsberg Malaysia.

In conjunction with this training, the company has also fully funded the printing and distribution of 100,000 English Essentials workbooks which will be used by teachers and pupils to improve their proficiency in English.

The event was attended by Carlsberg Malaysia deputy managing director Datuk Chin Voon Loong who was accompanied by Group & Marketing Communica-tions senior manager Pearl Lai and Tamil School Headmasters Council chairman P.S. Doraisamy.

“We are very honoured that Carlsberg Malaysia has come forward with this English Essentials programme to support the betterment of our Indian Community. With this programme and training, our schoolchildren and teachers will get to enrich and improve their knowledge and proficiency in English,” said Doraisamy.

“Ee have specially organised for Chin to light up our oil lamp in the middle of our paisley kolam and honour him with a silk sash with the special traditional music and dances. We hope to continue to expand this programme to the rest of the Tamil schools in Malaysia,” he added.

“Our company is also in full support of the Government’s recent call for more focus and support on improving English in schools. Education and a good proficiency in English opens up a lot more options for pupils to develop themselves and decide on their future careers. The English Essentials programme covering 53% of Tamil schools is only the beginning of a long term programme to support these schools,” said Chin.

The company also distributed 100,000 English Essentials workbooks to the 282 selected Tamil schools.
