Giant pearly shells take centre stage at IUtama

What say you on the issue below?

Unlike the “winter wonderland” that encompasses most mall decorations at this time of the year, 1Utama shopping centre decided to go with a nautical theme.

Dubbed “Splashing Over The Big Blue”, giant-sized clamshells glittered in gold and silver, seaweed made from transparent fabrics and Christmas lights adorned the mall.

Aside from the beautiful decor, guests and media at the launch were treated to a live choreographed performance at the unveiling ceremony recently.

Cheery: Cartoon character-themed clamshells and seaweed help complete 1Utama’s underwater Christmas decorations.

Dancers dressed in Grecian-themed costumes played water nymphs and other mythical marine creatures while performing to the beats of Kylie Minogue’s Aphrodite and Yanni’s Aria.

The production will also play on selected show dates throughout December.

Music lovers will get a chance to meet Japanese fusion music duo Hanamas, comprising Chie Hanawa on the traditional tsugaru-shamisen, and violinist Natsumi Okimasu.

The duo will be holding a meet-and-greet session with fans on Dec 11.

For those who prefer traditional music performances, choirs from Full Gospel Assembly Kuala Lumpur, Broadway Academy will be singing on selected dates, while an orchestra and children’s choir will be making regular appearances too.

There are some events lined up for children as well.

The mall will be holding a Christmas party for its Onecard Kids cardholders on Dec 16, as well as a treasure hunt open to children aged seven to 12.

Pre-registration is required for the treasure hunt.

Smooth moves: Mallgoers will be able to watch dancers in Grecianthemed costumes in action during selected showtimes throughout this month.

Two free children’s art workshops will be held on Dec 7 and 21 by KBU International College and Viola respectively.

Shoppers will be able to make most of their Christmas shopping as 1Utama will be giving out festive gifts.

For every RM100 spent in maximum two receipts, shoppers will be awarded a stamp to redeem the gifts.

To redeem, head to the Ground Floor at High Street, opposite the customer service centre.

Maybank-American Express card holders will be able to redeem free Christmas gift boxes after spending above RM300 in a single receipt at the mall’s Maybankard Centre.
