KLUANG: The management of the Kluang Mall has embarked on an initiative to help about 200 under-privileged children here this Christmas season by getting members of the public to buy them gifts.

The initiative, known as Angel Tree Project 2, is to encourage the public to give presents such as stationery items, school bags, dolls, bicycles, dictionaries, calculators, shoes and toys to the under-privileged children.

The mall’s manager Lim Jit Pang, 40, said that they hoped to bring the Christmas cheer to about 200 children, including those from the Agape Shelter Kluang and Damo Home.

He said that two Christmas trees with about 200 paper stars dangling on them have been placed near the entrance of the mall.

“The children have written their wishes for Christmas on the stars, and members of the public can select one and buy the present indicated on it as a Christmas gift for that particular child,” he explained.

“The Angel Tree Project 2, which is in its second year, is a meaningful and direct way for donors to give presents to the under-privileged children from the community here,” he added.

Once a present has been purchased, the item is then left at the bottom of the Christmas tree and would be handed over to the children on Christmas Day.

For fifteen-year-old student, A.Thevagi, she just wants a calculator to use when school reopens in January while her friend Nicole Tan, 10, hopes to get a Barbie doll for Christmas.

For active eleven-year-olds Tan Le Kang and J.Thasaraten, both were hoping for a bicycle each.

The two Christmas trees will be on display at the mall until Christmas.
