Taiwanese milk tea in town

What say you on the issue below?

CALLING all milk tea fans, there’s a new taste in town to try out.

Macoto’s Taiwanese milk tea is now available at Jogoya in StarHill Gallery, and has an outlet in SS15 as of two weeks ago.

The brand is planning to expand to Pavillion next and intends to open 30 stores throughout Malaysia in 2012.

Jogoya founder Chiang Cheng Nan said that they saw a demand for milk tea in the Malaysian market, and so decided to offer Macoto milk tea as a drink choice in their drinks bar.

New-found fans: Three pretty patrons tasting the Macoto Tea at Jogoya.

Patrons at the SS15 outlet can choose to add various toppings to their drink, for RM1 per topping. One of the interesting choices available are the fruity “popping balls”, which explodes in the mouth in a burst of fruit juice. They go well with the fruit smoothies available at Macoto Tea, but can be added to any drink.

Customers also enjoy the Black Strips Milk Tea, which features Gummy Ribbons that look like cincau, but has the texture of pearls.

Besides the beverages, Macoto Tea stocks other popular Taiwanese delicacies. Machines have been brought in from Taiwan in order to make their egg rolls which are handmade daily. They come in five flavours — original, chocolate, coffee, sesame and green tea.

Patrons can try these for free at the SS15 outlet as they are giving out two free handmade egg rolls for every cup of tea sold as an opening promotion. The egg rolls will only be available in Jogoya in January.

The outlet will also stock pineapple tarts imported from Taiwan, starting next month. Other delicacies like tai yang bing or “sun biscuit” will be offered, as well as others to come if there proves to be a market for Taiwanese delicacies in Malaysia.

The egg rolls will be priced at RM1.50 for one, RM8 for a packet of half a dozen, and RM16 for a packet of a dozen.

As for the pineapple tarts, they will be priced at RM36 for a pack of 10 pieces, and RM70 for a pack of 20 pieces.
