YONG PENG: A 51-year-old nursery teacher Salmi Ngarip was gleaming with joy when her name was called to receive an approval letter for an oven from Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“I’m really excited.

“I did not expect my application for an oven to be approved,” she when met at a presentation ceremony by Dr Wee, held at a school hall here recently.

Salmi has always wanted an oven but it was too expensive to own one as her husband was a retired soldier and an odd jobworker.

“I will bring to the nursery and baking some cakes for the children,” said the mother of five children from Kangkar Baru.

Dr Wee said a total of 68 farmers, single mother and housewives received various goods under the Government’s allocation.

The goods amounting to RM100,000 included fertilizers, pesticides, ovens, mowers and other equipment for agriculture.

Dr Wee urged all recipients to make full use of the goods and equipment given to them.

“The Government always tries to help those in need.

“Do not sell the goods and equipment as it is not right to do that,” he advised.

Another recipient Shahari Othman, 61, Kampung Parit Hamidvillage security and development committee chairman, thanked the Government for a mower and a tree trimmer which would be utilised for the village.

“We have to loan the equipment from villagers every time we have a gotong-royong.

“Now, we don’t have to trouble others when we have such activities,”he said.

Shahari said his village was surrounded by plantations, and villagers needed to carry out gotong-royong from time to time to ensure roads and surrounding areas were clear from overgrown weeds.
