THOUSANDS of people and tourists converged at Dataran Seni in Klang to watch the spectacular annual Christmas performances showcased by 23 churches in a five-hour evening celebration.

Organised by the Christian churches in Klang, the pre-Christmas celebration was to spread the message of love, peace, joy and goodwill. This was appropriate as there is a feeling of Christmas in the air.

Parents from as far as Johor, Kedah and Singapore brought their children to the celebration where parishioners under the Klang and Port Klang Pastor’s Fellowship (KPKPF) committee organised the gathering.

Among the churches involved were Wesley Church, Botanic Family Church, Shekinah Glory Church, Klang Chinese Methodist Church, Klang Wesley Methodist Church, Rehoboth Revival Centre, St Barnabas Anglican Church and Tamil Methodist Church.

Spokesperson for the event Reverend Rajan Retnam said the celebration has been going strong over the years and this was the sixth-year where sketches, band performances, scripture reading, singing and prayers were said for prosperity and love to prevail within the communities.

Huge gathering: A large crowd watching the performances.

“We had a good turnout with a lot of foreigners coming to join in the celebration that ended at 11pm.

“Our aim is to allow people to understand that Christianity is love and sharing of joy,” said Rev Rajan who is also a pastor at the 17-year-old Shekinah Glory Church in Taman Klang Jaya.

Organising chairman Abraham William Edwin said the aim of the gathering was to share and spread the message of peace and love in Klang to people of all walks of life.

Also present was state executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar and Klang MP Charles Santiago.

Santiago said he was overhelmed with the crowd and eagerness of the people to come and watch the celebration and unite in the spirit of Christmas.
