Eight is enough for twins

What say you on the issue below?

IT was double joy for twins Nur Asyiqin Azmi and Nur Aisyah Azmi who scored 8As in their their Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination.

But even in the midst of intensive revision, they never missed watching their favourite Korean drama series.

The girls from SMK Sungai Tiang in Pendang were among seven students from the school who scored straight As.

“Being twins, we have many things in common.

“We share similar hobbies which include reading and playing badminton.

“But our favourite pastime is watching Korean dramas for relaxation, even during the exam period,” Nur Aisyah said.

The twins dream of becoming doctors.

Bursting with pride: Azmi Omar, 43, and his wife Naimah Ismail, 42, congratulating their twin daughters Nur Asyiqin (second right) and Nur Aisyah at their school in Sungai Tiang, Pendang, Kedah.

The girls who had scored straight As in their Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination thanked their mother Naimah Iswani, 42, who is a teacher at their school, for their success.

Naimah said her daughters were hardworking and attended English and Mathematics tuition classes.

Consumers Association of Penang officer N. V. Subarrow was another proud parent when his daughter S. Priyaa, a student of SMK Bukit Jambul, scored 7As.

“She had also done well in her UPSR, scoring 5As.

“I hope this will inspire her younger brother, who is now in Standard Three, to follow in his elder sister’s footsteps and excel in his studies,” he said.

A total of 2,348 students among the 24,264 candidates who sat for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah in Penang obtained As in all subjects.

State Education director Ahmad Tarmizi Kamaruddin said the results showed an improvement.

“Last year 2,103 students scored As in all the subjects they sat for compared to the 1,976 students scoring all As in their PMR in 2009,” he added.

Ahmad Tarmizi said a total of 15,937 candidates or 70.41% passed all the subjects they sat for this year.

Student Lily Diyana Kamarudzaman, 15, from Taman Pauh, Jalan Baru, said she was shocked to find that she had scored 8As in the exam.

“Just before the exam, I was sick and had obtained only 2As and 6Bs in the trial examination,” she said.

However, Lily Diyana said she picked up the pace in the last few months before the final exam as she was determined to achieve her ambition of becoming a doctor.

P. Shadiswaren, from Simpang Ampat near Nibong Tebal, who scored 7As, said consistent hard work was the formula for his success.

“My parents and teachers encouraged me to study hard after I obtained 6As and 1B in the trial examination,” he said.

He added that he aspired to become an engineer.

Shadiswaren said that as he was from a boarding school, he did not attend any tuition.

Muhamad Syafiq Naif Ismail from Kulim, Kedah, said he was confident of scoring 8As in the exam as he had prepared for it.

The eldest among three siblings said that although he was active in sports at school, he managed to divide his time between his activities and studies.

Tan Xiang Hong, from Seberang Jaya, said group studies with his friends helped him score 7As.

“Group studying is very effective and most of the time, I engage in group studies with my friends,” he said.

Tan said that although during the trial examination, he obtained only 4As and 3Bs, he was not demoralised.

Instead, he was motivated to do better.
