MAS hires expert to recommend premium wines to passengers

Malaysia Airlines has appointed Dr Ron Georgiou MW (master of wine) as a wine consultant to recommend premium world-class wine to its passengers.

As one of the 299 MWs in the world, Georgiou’s expertise and passion for excellence is reflected in his wine selections for the national carrier.

“My aim is make wine a multi-sensory experience that moves beyond taste and aroma to one’s heart, spirit and mind. My concepts are holistic, ensuring an elegant integration of the wine-dine experience,” he said.

The airline now serves a new selection of premium wine and champagne labels from France, Germany, Spain, Australia and Portugal.

The premium wine is offered to First class passengers on the London, Amsterdam and Sydney routes as well as Business class passengers on all the airline’s international routes.

Customers on First class could look forward to a fine list of red and white wines such as Dom Pérignon 2002 champagne, Chateau Léoville Poyferré Grand Cru red Bordeaux and Frédéric Magnien Meursault white Burgundy.

Business class customers could take pleasure in being served an international selection of champagne, Rieslings and Chardonnays, and a variety of old and new world reds.

Each pouring is also paired with suitable food choices to ensure maximum satisfaction.

Malaysia Airlines senior vice- president (customer experience) S. Pushpalatha said: “Malaysia Airlines is delighted to be able to share Georgiou’s expertise and passion with our customers.”

Through an in-flight survey carried out by the airlines, feedback from customers was positive.

Feedback from the survey showed that many were delighted with the food pairing that went extremely well with their wine and champagne.

Non-Muslim cabin crew of the airlines are also trained to provide expert suggestions to the passengers.
