Viatak Enterprise given a 20-year licence to use land to breed fishes and ducks

What say you on the issue below?

FISH and duck breeder Viatak Enterprise can now continue its venture in peace following an agreement by landowners Gopeng Bhd and the state government to lease the land that Viatak is squatting on.

Viatak’s director Leong Yew Seong said during a meeting chaired by senior state executive councillor Datuk Hamidah Osman recently, he was informed that the company would be given a 20-year temporary occupational licence (TOL).

“Besides the lease, our lawyers informed us that the High Court order filed by Gopeng Bhd to evict us from the land has also been dropped,” he said.

An agreement on the matter was expected to be signed before New Year, added Leong.

“Under the agreement, we will pay RM15,000 annual rental to Gopeng and RM6,000 to the state,” he added, describing the matter as good news to the company.

Leong said more than 20ha land, which Viatak sat on, belongs to Gopeng Bhd while the rest was owned by the state.

Thanking the state and especially Dr Zambry for his assistance, Leong said the TOL ended 15 years of uncertainty faced by the company.

Viatak had been embroiled in a tug-of-war with Gopeng Bhd when it was told to vacate the 24ha site it had been operating on for the past four decades. The site was part of the 961ha that was granted to the company in 2009.

The matter came to the attention of Mentri Besar Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, who personally asked Gopeng Bhd to give Viatak due consideration since it was a major contributor to food production in the state.
