Flowers for prayers and decoration

What say you on the issue below?

THE chrysanthemum is a popular flower during Chinese New Year.

Pleasing sight: Red Chrysanthemums in full bloom at Sandra’s farm at Blue Valley.

Chrysanthemum farmer Sandra Mogan said the flower was used for prayers and decoration purposes.

“We distribute about 9,000 bundles, which have 12 to 14 stalks, locally each month.

“During Chinese New Year and Deepavali, our sales reach up to about 11,000 bundles at RM6 each,” said Sandra, who plants a variety of chrysanthemums on his 3.24ha farm in Blue Valley.

Noting that the chrysanthemum could endure rain, Sandra said the quality of the flower was hardly affected during wet seasons although harvesting could be delayed up to a week.

It takes about three to four months for its flowers to fully bloom, he added.

Besides the chrysanthemum, the kalanchoe is also a favourite during the lunar celebration.
