No easy route to success

What say you on the issue below?

THERE is no formula to passing the PMR examination with flying colours except to understand the subjects thoroughly.

This is what Jonathan Cheah, one of the 64 top scorers of SMJK Heng Ee, said when asked if he had any secret to his 8A achievement.

He said that he practised proper time management to juggle his co-curricular activities and studies.

With Christmas just a few days day away, B. Emmanuel John gave his parents the perfect Yuletide gift — a Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) result slip filled with As.

The SMK Penang Free student aced all the seven subjects he took by burning the midnight oil as well as proper time management.

“I was quite nervous before getting my results this morning but thankfully, my name was announced as one of the top scorers in the school,” said the 15-year-old who intends to be a doctor.

His mother G. Jeyarani, 45, could not stop her tears from flowing as soon as her son’s name was announced.

“I am overjoyed for him as I knew he studied very hard,” said the proud mother.

Emmanuel John is one of the 49 straight As students at the school yesterday.

Another top scorer Jonathan Ho said that he had many sleepless nights dwelling on his PMR results.

“On Wednesday night, I found it hard to sleep,” said Jonathan who obtained 7As.

He is the son of the school’s senior assistant of academics and administration Ho Nean Chan.

Another top scorer Harith Suffi Hasnan said studying consistently since Form One was the secret to getting 8As.

“I stopped studying late into the night about a month before the examination to ensure that I would not fall sick during the exams due to lack of sleep,” said Harith.

SMK (P) St George’s Regine See Yi Ling, who scored 7As, said she made more time for her weak subjects especially Bahasa Malaysia.

Another 7A scorer at the school A. Shoanaliy was thankful for her father’s guidance.

The school ranked fourth in state with 66.2% with straight As.

Principal Shariffah Afifah Syed Abbas said that the results this year recorded a cumulative gred average of 1.12%, an improvement from last year’s 1.42%.

SMK Bukit Jambul recorded their best ever performance with 136 students or 73.3% of the 192 candidates scoring straight As.

The school ranked second best in the state.

Its’s cumulative gred average of 1.10% was an improvement from last year’s 1.16%.

School principal Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad said it was the best effort by the school in the past 11 years.

Both schools achieved 100% passes in the examinations.
