JOHOR BARU: Twenty-four orang asli families living in Teluk Jawa here received an early Christmas present of RM50,000 from a developer.

Front Concept, the developer of Senibong Cove, gave out about RM2,000 to each family.

A gift was also given to the community to help them fund their activities.

The company’s assistant general manager Ling Ngie Soon said the company had made several similar goodwill payments in the past as part of their corporate social responsibility.

“So far, between 2008 and 2010, we have given out about RM100,000 in cash and kind to these families,” he said during a ceremony to hand over the aid to the families.

The company also donated a grass-cutting machine to the village head to help upkeep the village.

Permas assemblyman Datuk M.M Samy commended Front Concept for their initiative in reaching out to the orang asli community.

He added that the developer was also spending a substantial amount of money to improve the water quality of the Sungai Lunchoo in the area.

“I am also happy the company has also hired local orang asli folk to make Effective Micro-organisms (EM) which will supplement their income,” Samy said.

Village head Gosti Bintik, 44, thanked the company for their generosity.

“This money will come in handy as we prepare to celebrate Christmas end of this week,” he said.

Senibong Cove is a RM2bil development on the eastern corridor of Islandar Malaysia that is modelled after the highly acclaimed Hope Island Resort in the Gold Coast in Australia.
