Another place to go for help

THE Perak Indian Newspaper Distributors Association (Pinda) is taking on a new role other than distributing newspapers.

Its members are planning to set up a service centre to help the public look into their problems.

Pinda secretary P. Karthikasan said the service centre would be located within the association’s headquarters on Jalan Chung Thye Phin in Ipoh and was expected to open by early next year.

“Many people are clueless as to how to go about applying for government funding, licences and even birth certificates.

“They are also oblivious to the many government policies, which they can benefit from,” he said.

Pinda, Karthikasan said aimed at helping the public by providing them with the information that they needed and help them out in the application process.

Karthikasan said Pinda hoped to solve the people’s problems, similar to what was being done by the service centres of political parties such as the MCA and MIC.

“However, we are just beginners and there are many things to learn about in helping the public,” he said, adding that Pinda also hoped to organise motivation and revision classes for children who were weak in their studies.

The association received a huge boost in its plans to set up a service centre when Tambun MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah presented it with a RM50,000 allocation during its recent 46th anniversary dinner.

In his speech, Ahmad Husni said the people should unite and work together towards developing the country.

“It involves everyone. We must embrace and be proud of our multi-cultural society,” he said.
