THE two young girls could not resist peeking into the green packets they had just received, and discussed their plans to save the money for the pretty bracelet and purse they had seen during a recent outing to the nearby shop.
The two girls, from unit Mawar, were among the 56 children who received duit raya when representatives of multinational company Amway (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Amway) visited Rumah Tunas Harapan in Kuala Selangor recently.
The visitors also presented a donation of RM20,000 to the home.
This is the fourth year that Amway has supported the home with an annual grant, continuing a tradition that began in 1986 when Amway built six homes for children to live with foster parents.
“It is our hope that Amway’s continuing partnership with Rumah Tunas Harapan will help make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children,” said Amway general manager Paul Yee.
Thanking Amway for its gift, Rumah Tunas Harapan chairman Puan Sri Wan Noor Daud said the contribution would go towards the upkeep of the six houses under home as well as miscellaneous expenses, including the children’s educational needs.
“We truly appreciate Amway’s commitment to the children of Rumah Tunas Harapan from the very beginning.
“With the company’s support over the years, coupled with the guidance and wisdom of the foster parents, the children have been given the opportunity to improve their quality of life,” she said.
Festive hampers were also presented to the foster parents of all six units.
Also present at the ceermony was Social Welfare Department of Malaysia deputy director Halijah Yahya.
Unit Dahlia foster parent Salbiah Kasan said the children under her care looked forward to Amway’s representatives visiting them during the festive season each year.
