THE annual home decoration exhibition Homedec is now on at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The exhibition which began on Thursday is open till tomorrow.

More than 270 companies are participating in the event, taking up 830 booths in six halls.

The focus of this year’s Homedec is Kitchen Design.

A total of 30 major kitchen players are showcasing the latest kitchen designs, trends, materials and technology. Visitors can expect to find new designs, tips and guides in planning a practical and functional kitchen space for their homes.

Visitors can also bring their home layout plan to the Interior Design Clinic to get ideas and guidance to build or renew their dream house.

Wonderful surprise: First prize winner in the Homedec RM100,000 Cash Reward Contest Hargopal Singh receiving his prize from C.I.S Network Sdn Bhd president Vincent Lim.

Another activitiy is the Homedec Contest which offers RM30,000 worth of kitchen products as its grand prize.

The main sponsor of the contest is AinoKitchen (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

Over RM80,000 worth of other prizes will be given away.

Visitors just need to spend a minimum of RM100 in a single receipt at the exhibition to take part.

The Homedec Quality Award is also being organised again in conjunction with this exhibition.

The award is to give recognition for exhibits that meet the quality and standard, design and functionality, environmental and innovation criterion.

It also serves to provide the marketplace with products that are recognised and of high standards that will improve the living standards of every household.

This year, 45 products have been submitted by 30 exhibitors. Winning the award spells greater brand exposure for a particular product. Judging of the nominees will be conducted on-site.

There is also a RM2,500 Paint Makeover Bonus sponsored by Nippon Paint, to be given to one lucky winner every day.

The bonus comes with a professional consultant of colour scheming by Nippon Paint. Contest forms for this bonus can be obtained from Counter 2, Hall 2.

A Green Living Campaign is being held at Hall 2 to disseminate the green message and to encourage visitors to recycle, reduce and reuse.

The campaign’s non-woven grocery bags sponsored by Nippon Paint is being distributed to visitors, while stocks last.

If you need design directions to a beautiful home, join the Homedec Seminar at Lounge 1, Hall 1 today and tomorrow.

Renowned speakers will be discussing topics like the latest interior decor trends and ideas, Feng Shui guides for home, colours and dining setting.

Visitors who love to cook can also look forward to a cooking demo in collaboration with The Cooking House. Learn more about creating healthy food such as salad and dips, organic food cooking, breadmaking and baking,

Hands-on tips on cake decoration will also be provided. This workshop will be held at Kiosk 1, Hall 1.

A prize-presentation ceremony for the Homedec RM100,000 Cash Reward Contest was held recently following a media tour of the exhibition.

The Homedec RM100,000 Cash Reward was a contest held in conjunction with Homedec 09 held earlier this year — in Kuala Lumpur in April, Penang in June and Johor Baru in July.

It was the first time that the organiser gave away such a huge amount of cash. It was aimed as an added incentive for visitors in the three states who had joined the Homedec Contest and had spent a minimun of RM3,000 during the exhibitions.

The RM100,000 was divided into five prizes – RM50,000 for the first prize winner, RM20,000 for the second prize winner while the third to fifth prizes winners received RM10,000.

The first prize was won by Hargopal Singh a/l Indar Singh Gill from Puchong, Kuala Lumpur.

“We are building our new home and my first visit to Homedec in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year was indeed a great experience as I found a lot of new ideas on the latest products for my new home.

“Winning this prize was a big surprise for me and my family,” he added.
