Ong: EGM a chance for us to prove we’re serious about change

What say you on the issue below?

PETALING JAYA: The MCA’s most urgent agenda now is to regain lost ground by strengthening the economy, ensuring just and equitable policies, enhancing race relations and recruiting young members.

“The EGM is an opportunity for us to prove to the community and Malaysians that we are very serious about changing ourselves,” party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said.

“We can choose the right path towards an era of integrity and accountability or we can let MCA falter and then wonder why we have lost the trust of our community.

Firm support: Ong greeting MCA central delegates before a dinner at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur last night prior to the upcoming EGM.

“The decision is in your hands. I have complete faith that you will make the right choice based on your wisdom,’’ said Ong on his blog posting yesterday which carried the message “Together as 1 MCA 1 Team”.

Ong said once the choices were made the party could start its real work.

“We must stand together as party comrades to bring about the changes that I had mentioned earlier. I assure you, by changing ourselves for the better, we will win back the support of the Chinese community and the Malaysian people,” he said.

He said disagreements should not be the yardstick for party growth. “It should be our unity, commitment and passion that are important to bring about the changes needed for the benefit of MCA and our community at large.

“Please know that it is because of you that I know I can keep standing up for transparency, accountability and credibility although the road ahead may be fraught with challenges.

“It is because of you that I want to uphold values and unity of the party. And it is because of you that I give you my word to not give up or give in for doing what is right. I urge you to do the same,” he said.

Ong expressed his gratitude to all who had given him firm support.

“They have helped me cement my belief that we are on the right track towards a better and more relevant MCA,” he said.

Ong added that was the words of support and encouragement from supporters via SMSes, emails or even handshakes that had kept him going the last few months.

“These heart-warming gestures have all helped strengthen my resolve to push forward and stand up for what is right,” he said.

Ong’s Facebook page has also been swamped with messages ranging from best wishes to messages of encouragement from people urging him to continue to serve.

Supporters also left notes saying that they were confident that he would see victory in the EGM.

His Facebook page, which was set up on Oct 2, has attracted 2,000 friends within a week.

Postings from the MCA president the past few days have focused mainly on the EGM.
